For Family Home Evening (FHE) this week, we went to the the Recycling depot, armed with a bag of our recyclables. For that last few weeks we have been talking about the importance of keeping our world clean and healthy. As a family we have been trying to be less waste full and recycle our garbage when ever possible.
Jayna was a little over come by the smell of "rotten juice" (truth be told the depot reeked of the smell of old stale beer)
First we sorted all our cans and bottles....

Then we got to go into the back to see all the piles and piles of recycling.
Jayna went on to give us a little speech on how all these cans and bottles would be in the trash if they were not recycled and would fill our world with garbage!
Jacob was most excited that he was given money for recycling..each of the kids were given $1.15.

Before we
Left the Kids were thrilled to stand in this character thing!
Once we returned home we Discussed the Creation of the world and how the earth is a gift and we must take care of it!
It was a Great learning experience for the kids (for us as well. We have made a greater commitment to honor and respect our world by doing our part. Every ONE can make a difference!
Jacob was in charge of treats this FHE and he requested recycling cup cakes.....ummmm OK?
so here it is!
Creative?
Justin said if they were really recycled cup cakes we would have dug through the trash at Safeway looking for the old discarded ones. HA no thanks. gotta draw the line some where.
no recycled food.

Nice work on the cupcakes! You're getting pretty Martha Stewart-ish in your old age.
Great FHE! The boys go once a month with our plastics/cans to the Bottle Depot - perhaps sometime we'll take them to that location.
You can tell your kids that many of the cloth bags that stores are selling are made up of plastics from recycled bottles.
Ha Ha, recycled cupcakes...well done!
